The Plasma Car

Today the blue Plasma Car below is the cheapest I have ever seen one anywhere. It is on sale for $40.

The PlasmaCar is one of the coolest toys have seen in a while. I heard of it a few years ago but, the price was always over $100. So I never really looked much into it other than it did look like a lot of fun. Recently I have seen them in some local toy stores and my kids have had a blast riding on them all around the store. They work best on flat surfaces like tile. But, I am hopeful it will work well outside on our quiet street. It seems to work well in all the videos I have seen. It should help my kids burn off some of that extra energy too.

The PlasmaCar has won countless awards since it has become more popular. It started out very well in China. But, no one really tried to sell it in the U.S. or Canada. in 2002 an Ottawa entrepreneur named Timothy Kimber came across it in a little store and decided to learn more about it. Kimber was surprised to hear it really wasn't promoted in the U.S. or Canada. He contacted the manufacturer and managed to get distribution rights for the U.S. and Canada. He even changed its name from Fun Car to the PlasmaCar. He thought that with Plasma TV's being the next big thing in electronics adding it to the name would get people excited.

The car has 6 wheels but, the front 2 are only for stability and don't even touch the ground. They are used in case the rider goes over something like a curb or object on the ground. The next 2 wheels move when the rider turns the steering wheel and cause the PlasmaCar to pull forward. Since the 2 wheels are in back of the actual steering wheel physics makes them propel forward using Newton's "action/reaction" law. The car works best on a flat surface like tile and linoleum. It is for ages 3 and up and anyone up to 220 pounds.
