The Hunger Games is my Favorite Book Series

The Hunger Games was Awesome
I tried reading Harry Potter and I kinda liked the Twilight series. But, The Hunger Games is the series for me. I heard about it two years ago and never got around to reading it. I'm actually glad I didn't start reading it until the third and final book came out. Or else I would have been very disappointed about having to wait for the second and third to be published. I think I liked this series best because it is very realistic, even if it is set in the distant future. Suzanne Collins did an amazing job of making me feel for the characters. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It wasn't as geared toward kids as the beginning Harry Potter books. The size didn't seem as intimidating to me either. It was also a lot less girly than Twilight series.
Hunger Games Trilogy for the Amazon Kindle
I ride the train to work and was looking for something to keep me busy. Once in a while when I'm not working on my laptop I will read for a little while on the train and subway. It was very convenient when my son wanted a Kindle. Because just like most other things he never ended up using it. So now I use his Kindle all of the time. I got the whole Hunger Games Trilogy on sale for $17 for the kindle. I have no idea why Amazon lists it for a lot more now on my link. But, when you actually go to the link it is a lot cheaper. It seems like links don't list the sale price. Anyway I find books on the Kindle are really great for carrying around and the battery lasts forever.
Hunger Games Movie
I'm very excited about the Hunger Games movie being made. It is set for release on March 23, 2012 and I am counting down the days. Unfortunately I can't find an official trailer anywhere. But, apparently it will be first seen at the MTV VMA awards tonight. So I guess you should check that out and I will post it as soon as I can. I am very impressed with the great cast.
Jennifer Lawrence from Winters Bone will play Katniss.
Josh Hutcherson from The Kids are Alright and Bridge to Terabithia will play Peeta.
Liam Hemsworth from The Last Song and Knowing will play Gale.
Woody Harrelson just seems perfect for Haymitch.
Donald Sutherland fits President Snow perfectly too.
Leven Rambin from The Sarah Connor Chronicles will play
Glimmer

Guess it's all the reader's mental filters. I did NOT take from the series any message that "war is bad". It wasn't war per se that presented the problem, but politicians intent on control of the masses.

Hm. The Hunger Games series is (one of) my favorites also--and I'm in my late sixties. Love it, have read it several times through so far, etc.
But I can't imagine going to the movie(s) because:
Either, (1) the movies will stick close to the books, in which case the gory death scenes will be far too macabre, grim, and horrible for even Stephen King, or (2) they'll wussify those very realistic, sometimes hard-suffering killings and psychological tortures until its palatable for a PG audience, in which case, (gag-barf!) the books will have been gutted to make the movies.
Either way is no good for me.
Anybody who wants to live through SEEING little girls take spears through the body needs therapy. You really want to WATCH Rue die?
